Low Earth Orbit Satellites
Using
LEO (Low Earth Orbit) satellites for data collection, communication and
location services is a young industry that is developing rapidly. At
present, the only LEO satellite system (the ARGOS system) in use is
operated by Collecte Localisation Satellites (CLS). ARGOS was
established under an agreement between the United States National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Aeronautics and
Space Administration (NASA) and the French Space Agency (CNES). ADSI is
licensed to resale satellite capacity and data processing services from
Services Argos, Inc. through NACLS (the North American subsidiary of CLS).
